Things to do in Salem: Willamette Valley Pie Co

Enjoy Local Ingredients in Hand-Crafted Pies

No visit to Salem is complete without tasting the city’s specialties. One well-known delicacy is Willamette Valley Pie Co, which crafts delicious fruit pies and cobblers right in Salem with all-natural ingredients. This local Salem company offers more than just pies; the owners have played an integral part in the Salem community for over 20 years.

The History of Willamette Valley Pie Company

What later became Willamette Valley Pie Co started as a cannery-style backyard warehouse in 1999. The business has been family-owned and operated since it started, and now three generations of the same family are involved. In 2009, the company’s country store and café opened in Salem, making the pies available for individual retail rather than wholesale only. Not long after, the company started a fundraising program to raise thousands of dollars each year for organizations that need support.

Visit the Store or Take a Tour

At the Willamette Valley Pie Co country store, you can purchase pies to take home but can also sit and have a slice, scone, muffin, coffee, or smoothie and enjoy the atmosphere. Outdoor tables make it the perfect place to enjoy a slice of pie a la mode in the warmer months. You can eat soup or sandwiches for lunch inside the store’s café, and outside at a food stall in June and August. The store is also full of other home goods sourced from local producers.

In addition to visiting the store and café, you can also schedule a tour of the Silverton production facility to watch pie-making in action. In the summer, the store offers a PYO (pick-your-own) Blueberries event as well. The Willamette Valley Pie Co also puts on special events throughout the year. Stop by the store, have a slice of pie, relax, and pick up a souvenir on your way out.
